Please Click on the images for a larger view. The handwriting on the photos (with dates) is "suspect," and more accurate dates have been added in the overlays. The top center photo depicts the Academy with Clapboards over the brick.  "... it was determined that brick school buildings were not healthy and so the bricks were covered with clapboards. Eventually the clapboards came off."
Duffy-Wescott Post 85 of the American Legion is housed in the the old Bluehill Academy building (built 1833). Its structural and ascetic maintenance has changed over the years and the building is in need of some serious attention.
We have started some basic efforts and have:
     1.
raised funds to complete a Survey to help identify the most pressing and future efforts related to the preservation of the Historic Building;
     2. corrected some drainage issues in the back of the building that corrected issues which damaged our back foundation wall and flooded the basement on a regular basis;
     3. and completed a much needed well. We now have our very own well - for the first time EVER!
     4. We have started exterior brick and Portico work and have replaced most of the windows.
     5. We have replaced the side door and added a new ramp and stairs.

Our NEXT efforts will focus on:
1.
major repairs to the back foundation wall, the basement and the back brick wall itself.
2. finish brickwork....
3. finish portico
4. finish windows
5. complete exterior painting and wood work
6. and then the interior!
